Honolulu AdvertiserHawai'i Pacific University's Cheer and Dance teams are preparing to make their way to the national competition to contend against teams from across the United States to defend their reigning title of national champion.
The community is invited to view the routines the teams will take to the competition at the Cheer and Dance Nationals Preview at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29 at the Waikiki Shell. Admission is free.
The preview event will include performances by HPU's All-Girl Cheer Team, Small Co-Ed Cheer Team, Large-Co-Ed Cheer Team, Dance Team, partner and group stunt teams, and Sharky the Sea Warrior. The preview will also feature guest performances by local organizations Cheer 808 and Studio 808.
The HPU Large Co-ed Cheer Team has won six straight national titles (2003-2008). The HPU Small Co-Ed Cheer Team has won four consecutive national titles (2005-2008). The HPU Dance Team has won three consecutive championships, totaling four titles overall (2004, 2006-2008).
